Salad Bar

The Frostwood Salad Bar is gearing up for another great year. Since 2012, Child Nutrition Services in partnership with the Frostwood PTA serves approximately 100 salads each week to our students, staff and visiting parents. This special program has been an example for other schools in the district and has just launched at both Bunker Hill and Memorial Drive Elementary campuses.

In fact, Frostwood was recently named to the Healthier Generation’s 2019 list of America’s #Healthiest Schools by achieving the National Healthy Schools Bronze Award. This honor is presented by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. They will be sharing how we have made our school a healthier place for students and staff during their annual America’s #HealthiestSchools campaign. Millions see this campaign each year through both local and national media outlets, such as USA Today, The Huffington Post, Woman’s Day, and many more.

The Salad Bar team is excited to continue this healthy school tradition! The salad bar will be moving to THURSDAYS each week beginning on October 24th.

Students will have the chance to be served this nutritious lunch by parent and family volunteers. The salad bar features a variety of protein options (grilled chicken, ham and popcorn chicken). In addition there is a wide variety of fresh fruits and veggies to pick from as well.

If you have an interest in supporting fresh fruits and vegetables in your children’s diets, or have a child with an allergy, or would like to get to know other families and Cafeteria staff, you are encouraged to participate!

Volunteers are asked to commit to the two available shifts 1-2 times a month (depending on number of volunteers). Training is easy and done all via online videos prior to your first shift as well as a helpful handout with important volunteer details.
